ViRoom - a Smart Low Cost Multicamera Setup

Tomas Svoboda (ETH Zurich, Switzerland)

I will present a multicamera Visual Room (ViRoom). It is constructed from low-cost digital cameras and standard computers running on Linux. Monkeys, the software architecture that allows consistent image acquisition, image processing and decision making will be introduced. The software system can easily accommodate different number of FireWire digital cameras and networked computers. The modularity of the system will be demonstrated on a simple telepresence application. I will present a fully automatic self-calibration method for multiple cameras calibration as a necessary step for further, more 3D oriented applications.
