Automatic morphometric analysis of muscle fiber images.

This talk deals with automatization of measuring the morphometric data
on the muscle fiber images obtained from electron microscopy. First,
we describe the detection of the muscle fiber orientation using
Fourier transform. Applying our extended thresholding method we detect
the boundaries between myofibril constituents - A band, I band and Z
line. Then we measure required morphometric data - distances between
borders of constituents. Since we have available results of manual
measurements, we compare them with our results. We also provide some
stereological measurements and discuss the problems related to
automatization of the complex stereological analysis.
