New Techniques for 3D Achitecture Reconstruction Tomas Werner Oxford University The aim of automated generation of textured VRML models of architectural scenes from uncalibrated photographs is addressed. While much attention has been devoted to this reconstruction from aerial imagery, we consider close-range photographs, i.e., images are captured by a person standing on the ground and equipped by an ordinary low-cost camera. The task in full generality is very difficult and indeed unsolved to date. Yet it is easier than reconstruction of general scenes thanks to many constraints in building geometry. We present some new and hopefully useful techniques leading towards it. In particular, several variation of sweeping techniques, by which the model is reconstructed by a sequence of cleverly designed one parameter searches.
