MetropoGIS a city modeling system Joachim Bauer bauer@icg.tu-graz.ac.at I will present the city modeling system we developed at VRVis Research Center and say a few words about a new project I already started at CMP. Abstract: We present a city modeling system that was developed at the VRVis Research Center in Graz. The system is specially targeted for modeling from terrestrial images i.e. facade images and covers all aspects from image acquisition to the final 3D Point cloud. In a feature extraction step we detect line segments and subseqently compute intersections of those line segments, which serve as points-of-interest. The relative ortientation between the images is computed from the points-of-interest by detecting plane homographies. In the modeling step we apply sweep-based algorithms to detect 3D line segments and 3D planes. An area-based dense matching step then yields dense 3D point clouds with an inherent triangulation. Finally we compute an ortho-rectified texture for the facade using all input images.
