The reseach group of Television and Photonics at the Department of Radioelectronics has been involved in two main research tasks during last eight years. In the first direction - optical processors - we have realized a couple of experimental devices for testing of fundamental properties of optical processing systems such as signal spectrum analyzers and 1D and 2D correlators in a cooperation with Dept. of Computer Science, National University of Ireland.. The second direction - PhotoASICs - has been devoted to specialized VLSI circuits with an optical image input including some initial on-chip preprocessing (difference of consequent images, 2D convolution and edge detection, distance measurement) in a cooperation with the Paul Scherrer Institut, Zurich.
