Pedestrian detection - What have we learned ?

Rodrigo Benenson (Max-Planck-Institut fur Informatik, Saarbrucken, Germany)

Abstract:

Ten years have passed since the iconic Viola&Jones was first used over pedestrians. What have we learned since then ? In this talk, we will discuss the insights and lessons obtained by reviewing the 40+ detectors currently present in the Caltech pedestrian detection benchmark. We will point out the strategies that have paid-off, and discuss the ones that still have to show their promise. We will also present studies regarding the complementarity amongst existing approaches, and report the current best known performance on the challenging Caltech-USA dataset.
