Introduction
ViRoom is a mobile scalable low-cost multi camera
setup based on standard consumer hardware. Its applications will be
based on detecting and tracking
humans in this room, recognizing and storing
descriptions of their actions,
and selecting the best viewpoint for this actions
and generating new view from a virtual camera if necessary.
We do not want to restrict the system to one particular room with
a specific arrangement. We would like to be able to turn any room
into ViRoom just by setting up the cameras.
This project has a strong overlap with
STAR
project in which we are involved by cooperation with KU Leuven.
Some of the possible applications of of ViRoom are:
- Training videos: An action performed by
an instructor can be recorded automatically without human
cameramen and editor. Moreover, viewpoints not possible for
a real camera can be provided.
- Automated training: After watching
a training video the trainee can perform the action in the
ViRoom. The system generates a description of the actions,
compares them to the descriptions from training video, and
notifies the trainee if any differences occur.
- Remote support: An unexperienced person
performing some action in a ViRoom can be alerted when his/her
actions differ from the predefined pattern. A remote expert
can be contacted automatically. This expert will get the best
view on the actions in the ViRoom and can provide an advice.
- Telepresence, Augmented reality
