Chess career
I was born in Prague, 1985. I have found interest in chess when I was six years old. Having no background in my family, I learnt all from books. Later on, numerous coaches contributed to my preparation, including Miloslav Vanka, IM Josef Pribyl, GM Ludek Pachman and GM Vlastimil Jansa.
I won the championships of the Czech Republic in my age category in the years 1993-95, then I concentrated on higher-level tournaments. In 1994 I played his first international open tournament. I regularly participated at world championships of his age category, in 1997 he was 3rd at B12, in 1998 2nd at B14. I got my IM title at the age of 14. In 2000, 15 years old, I was 6th at the European Championship under 20 and 5th at the World Championship under 18 years. I also won the round-robin masters' tournament in Olomouc, Czech Republic (I was twice the second in this tournament in preceding years). In 2001 I got the shared second place among adults at the Championship of the Czech Republic (to be honest, that time it was not very strong). My first great achievement was 7 out of 9 points at the European Team Championship, Leon 2001. My rating performance was 2775 and I have not reached better performance so far. Then I fullfilled my 2nd norm in February, 2002 in Nykoebing, Denmark. Finally, I reached the grandmaster title with 7.5 out of 11 in the Czech Extraleague. More exactly, with 6.5 out of 9 points. I think that the 9th round was played on 21st March 2002, six days before my 17th birthday. In 2002, I first time appeared at the Chess Olympiad (which took place in Bled, Slovenia). I was successfull with 7.5/11 at the Board 3. At the Czech Extraleague 2002/2003 I was very successful with 9/11 at the board 2 with performance around 2730. My result from Mitropa Cup 2003 was a bit more humble, but 7/9 at the 1st board was also a good result. In August 2003 I won the open tournament in Polanica Zdroj, Poland. There were only 5 GMs, including me. In fact, it is the only open tournament I have won so far. In October 2003, I again represented my country in Plovdiv, Bulgary. I reached 6/9 at the board 2. To be honest, my game against GM Tiviakov and the game M. Jirovsky v. Nijboer were finished in a very strange way. During the timetrouble, there was a blackout at the tournament hall. After guarter an hour, the captains agreed that I would win and the other game would finish as a draw. Both positions were better for us. It is likely that GM Jirovsky had even better position than me.
In 2004, I won the Czech championship for the first time. I scored 8/11. There were 8 grandmasters amongst my opponents. In May, I reached my best known result when I finished on the 6th place at the European Individual Championship (Antalya, Turkey). Then I qualified for the World Championship. In September, I scored 8/9 against opponents rated about 2375 at the 1st Polish League. In fact, there is also Extraleague, so the 1st league is not so strong.
I also played the youth tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland. I was 3rd out of 8 players. In November, I played the Chess Olympiad, again. I reached satisfactory result 6.5/11 at the Board 1.
In 2005, I shared the first place at the Czech championship. GM Jiri Stocek scored 8/11, as I did.
My current ELO is 2647.
