Abstract: I will give an informal introduction to polynomial homotopy
continuation methods. These methods are at the core of numerical algebraic
geometry, an area that found a lot of "real world" applications in the recent
years. Can these methods compete with the established symbolic algebraic
methods
such as Groebner bases? What problems in computer vision fall naturally into
numerical algebraic framework?
